Description

Black-bellied Whistling Ducks, Dendrocygna autumnalis. I was wandering around in the big aviary at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, and saw them. There were four altogether, but I was too close to get all four of them with my telephoto lens. They were going around nibbling on people's shoes and whistling (asking for food?) One man said he didn't mind if they nibbled on his shoes, but he started to get a little nervous when they began nibbling on the leg of his jeans!

They do seem to be laughing and in good humor. Friendly brave birds. I wonder if they were begging, or if they were saying "go away".
