Description
we went to a store in the city in Mexico and they have a jewel store close by and as we drove off after we went in the store I noted the armed guard outside the store and took this shot. My friend say the guard is there because of the jewel store. I did get some photos of the guard wen I was outside the store and was not in the car rideing, but I like this photo of the guard.
I did see one in a back of a truck standing up and he had a machine gun as they was parking the truck but I did not have my camera ready.
my friend say that this part of Mexico do not have the crime as other parts of Mexico have. As far as he knew on two people got killed here last year in Cozumel. In my town going by the size of the city I live in it one of the highest murder cities in Louisiana. Of course the bigger cities like baton Rouge and New Orleans have very high murder rates much higher only because they are bigger than Lake Charles.
I like this photo as it looks surreal to me

I've been once in Mexico, a very long trip by bus and train, for a month in 1978. I think that just now it would be impossible to do the same trip. Too dangerous. A friend, who was with me, became a catholic priest (!) after this trip.

I like this too, the resolute quality of your friend's portrait and the stark somewhat shadowy image of the well-armed guard. It's like if you are going to be in that place then perhaps being resolute is best...

very candid shot. Mexico has had guards around banks and expensive stores every since I first went in 1970.the same thing in the Philippines, except every store in malls has them

Jocko, you've got to be careful. People get shot down in parts of Mexico... I don't know of a GUARD that wants his picture taken... maybe he's guarding drugs instead of jewels? maybe he's afraid you're going to show his picture to someone to have him "removed"... I'd really watch who you are shooting, they might shoot back, just not with a camera - careful man.
