Description
The Imperial Japanese Navy carrier Akagi (Red Castle)met her fate at the hands of three SBD Dauntless dive bombers and one hit from one of their 1000 pound bombs. With a load of armed and loaded fighter aircraft on her deck to add fuel to the deadly explosion, she was fatally damaged and consequently scuttled as a complete loss.
It is a constant source of amazement at the amount of human and material resources that are expended on these "mighty" warships, and how quickly they can be dispatched in the right circumstances.

Excellent work! The water looks real. The clouds, explosions and smke, too. Amazing that only the British armoured their carrier decks to avoid this. We lost the Yorktown at Midway, much due to the same. And, we have still not learned our lesson, considering all the carrier groups - all that's needed is a cruise missile getting through and, bye-bye carrier and 5,000 men. A battleship stands a much better chance due to its armor citadel, and they're all gone. Sigh. Keep up the good work! :-) Now, why do the ratings only go to 5 when I want to give a 6?

Great image Bill....I'm just about finished with the hanger version for EXPOSE entry and this fine scene wil get my juices ready to do the Yorktown from above. The textures you sent me for the EPIC low poly figures are great, have really worked well in the hanger, and will add a lot to seeing them running across the deck when I get there. Additionally, I'm going to rework the texture maps to an all white uniform to use for the crew of the Shamrock III Americas Cup scene. 5+
