Description
This piece is inspired by the Imperial Japanese Navy destroyer IJN Yukikaze, "Snowy Wind". She is accompanied by a sister Kagero class destroyer on escort duty during the events surrounding the battle of Leyte Gulf...considered by many to be the largest naval battle in history, and one of the elements contributing to the demise of the Japanese fleet in WW 2.
I love the rough water shots of the Japanese warships plowing through the angry Pacific environment. The shapes of these ships are very elegant and I suspect have a lot to do with Japan's heritage of being an island country with a major fishing industry over the ages.
I think this is one of my most successful rough water renders to date...it really gives the feel that I'm looking for. This is pretty much a straight Vue piece. I wanted it to work without any postwork, but in the end I did add some very minor touches.
IJN Yukikaze: free Kagero class destroyer by Siosai (I don't remember the link, sorry)
IJN Ise: Sitting in for the IJN Haruna free at sketchup warehouse by The Architect and retextured and tweaked
A6m2 scouts: Neiwil on sharecg.com if I'm not mistaken.

excellent water. it really looks like the ships are pushing their way through it.

WOW! A really beautiful and well executed image. The water is fantastic. The atmosphere looks very realistic, too. For additional rough sea feeling you could make the destroyers roll and pitch a bit in the water, but this would make the creation of appropriate water more difficult (even the battleship could receive a bit of a roll). Keep up the good work! :-)

torpedo bait! I repeat everything brother T.Rex said.... most excellent, bud!

Very believable,I think that you have done an excellant job with the water. If ever you need reference for stormy seas they dont come any better than those painted by English artist the late, great John Chancellor...even better than photographs to my mind.Hmm,as an afterthought, what about some crew members? Over here in the UK we have a great TV series, 'Hornblower'But one of the things that really spoilt the illusion of old sea battles for me was on one of the early episodes I noticed that the two brilliantly made and totally believable small scale model ships fighting had no crew members on their decks...I think that it really adds something to Naval scenes to see the hustle of deck life going on, just my thoughts. As always, superb work.

Brilliant image Bill, love your BIG water pics, very realistic and a nice spray from the bow wave. Haven't seen that A6N2 in years.....definitely time for an overhaul :-) For anyone interested the Siosai link is http://www5d.biglobe.ne.jp/~oedo_s/ Thanks for the mention mate....

Wow that's great. It looks very dangerous...

Looks good Bill... you certainly have a way with the wake of the ship plowing ahead... Nice job on the smoke.. but the planes look just a bit too defined?

Inspiring work... I'll have to add a play with Vue to my "To-do" list. I think I'll also look at that destroyer- I could certainly use that...

Excellent look and render

Awesome dynamism motion!

I have to agree with Neil. The water scenes you create with big lumbering ships in rough seas are a delight with a gloomy atmosphere.
saphira1998
great
