Description

Well, Turkey is not all ancient cities, it is a gorgeous country and worth seeing just for the scenery. So now I take you to Antalya; at 1 million people it is the country's biggest international sea resort. It sits on the south coast of Turkey on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. It is now my favorite place in the world. I could spend a lot of time here. One of the advantages of taking a tour is that you get to stay in hotels that would normally be way out your league, at least way out of my league! This was the view from my room at the Divan Hotel, which sat right on top edge of a cliff face above the sea. It was a luxurious five star hotel. This view was gorgeous, but the entire old city was just an amazing spectacle of pure beauty. It had a fantastic mixture of ancient and modern. It was built at the same time as Hierapolis and Pergamon, but this is a city that kept living. Everyone who conquered it kept it; it was just too good to wreck or give up. According to legend in about 150 B.C. King Attalos II of Pergamon sent out a group of men to find "heaven on earth." When they came to this region of ancient Pamphylia they realized they had found their quest. The king built a city here that he called Attaleia, which later became the Turkish Antalya. Anyone who has spent time here will know they did find heaven on earth. None of us wanted to leave though our tour was only half way done! If you look to the lower right you can see some buoys in the sea. This was the edge of where we got to go swimming. It was accessed by an elevator that took you down the cliff to a secluded seaside spot. My only question was why were these Russian tourists hanging out at the hotel pool? Some people! Previous

I must say that all these images you have taken from your trip is like a complete walk through, and I really like how you explain some facts about the place. Did anyone say you are an amazing photographer? That's another talent of yours that I just now found out. :-)

This DOES look like a little corner of heaven here. Wow! I'm sure the fact that it was on the Mediterranean and a seaport had something to do with it being 'kept alive'. It seems it would have been a very significant trading port. Gorgeous sea and hotel! Lucky you :)

Room with a view...... Boy, I'll say! You know, it's odd... When the Mediterranean is mentioned, the first thing that usually comes to mind is conflict. But it is a beautiful and historic region, and you have taken us on a spectacular journey through your eyes and lens - and knowledge of history. Thank you for that, Roxy!
