Description
This weeks project at the Nature Academy was very challenging. The high-poly daisies are modelled in meticulous detail and use particle systems for the petals and the florets in the compound flower head. The low poly daises and two kinds of grass are also distributed using particle systems, as are the water droplets. Since the video tutorials were made, the particle system in Blender has undergone significant changes, and there are many aspects relating to the rotation and distribution of particles that we needed to figure out for ourselves, since our tutor appears to be missing in action. However, figuring things out yourself is also something we have to learn. The most valuable learning was how to create the materials for the compound flower head, a complicated overlay of materials and textures. Another lesson learned is that if something will be close to the camera and in focus, no effort must be spared.
Zooming in should be worthwhile on this image.

Nicely put together Blender render! Google "Blender Tutorials", or even YouTube "Blender 2.60" may shed some light on your future projects!

Oh my. This is outstanding! I can't imagine the steps it must have taken to get this result. Marvellous work! I zoomed in on the large daisy and then had my photographer husband come over and look. I said, "what do you think of this?" He looked at it for a while and said, "I don't know ... am I missing something?" I said, "Yeah ... what you're missing is that this is not a photograph!" He was totally blown away.

Thank you all for the kind words. Yes, I am having fun and learning a lot. Now I need to figure out how to make a rose, because those water droplets really need a rose!

This is very well done - what I really like is that when I enlarge it, the resulting extra detail continues to add to the image's realism.
