Description

Haven't a clue what JB was watching only know I thought her feet would be cold. (The ice is only around the cattle water butt. NO WAY would I let her be near a stretch of frozen water off the lead) I was thinking how amazing dogs (& cats for that matter) paws are, they can stand extreme cold, the heat, walking on all sorts of surfaces & seem to withstand almost anything. Thanks for all the lovely comments & favs, so, so appreciated. xxxx

I have often thought the same thing about their paws, we walk on hot concrete path in bare feet we know all about it or on stones but they just wander along like its no big deal lol.. A lovely capture of a mesmerized JB Barbara..

Oh look at that face something definitely has caught her eye here, this is a really fabulous shot Barbara, and a lovely way for me to start the day having seen it. I too have often thought exactly that about the dogs/cats paws, and especially the cats. Amazingly enough I read recently that apparently the blood supply of dogs and cats to their extremities such as paws is limited. So it goes on to say that it is wise to be on the look out in Extreme weather conditions as tissues die as ice forms in the tiny blood capillaries supplying these areas! Apparently and quote - 'frost bite typically can affect paws, the tail and ears' and it goes on... I seem to think that it is the domestic cats that would suffer most in the snowy cold. What about the sledge dogs then I asked myself, such as those who work on a daily basis travelling in the most extreme of icey conditions and able to withstand sub-zero temperatures, now they are simply amazing as they even can sleep outside in the snow with their tails covering their noses to keep them warm? Aren't our furry friends simply amazing creatures? hugs and love xxxxxxx

Great photo of her Barbara, and your point is well made about how tough their paws are.

Fantastic capture of Jasmine at her best. The weather here is about extreme as it gets for cold. Frost bitten ears are a very common site with cats that are outdoor cats. It is very rare to find one with frostbitten paws but it does happen. The ones that are at serious risk is new calves. The cattle stay outside all the time, normally if a cow is close to being ready to deliver the farmer brings it into the delivery barn, but that on occassion gets missed. A new born calf is very wet with the results of afterbirth and the -40C temps get exagerated by being wet.

I think some of the most amazing photos of animals are like this one, captured when they are so intensely focused on something! Well seen, and wonderfully captured! When it gets as cold as we've been having, our walks get very short, Murphy is an old boy now at 11, and I don't want him out in the cold too long. He feels otherwise, and resents having his walks shortened so much!

I love this shot! Jasmine is so focused. When I saw it, I thought of a similar look on a picture of a Harris Hawk that I took. Stay tuned, I will post it soon. :) Excellent capture. The ice makes a great backdrop, with very interesting patterns. Lovely detail of Jasmine's fur. Beautiful girl and beautiful image!

My father old bird dog Belle (a Labrador) was one such as this. Very intense when something got her attention, even if no one else could spot it. And indeed, most dogs are much smarter than people give them credit.
