Description

I once read a story by Bob Shaw...it lends its title to this piece, as I thought of that story while walking past an abandoned business of some sort, today. I'd taken that time to decompress from work. The Shaw story concerns a scientific innovation known as "slow glass" and the poignant sucker-punch-ending of the story concerns...well...a window. I thought of that as I made this shot. It's a different sort of window. There is no slow glass, no sucker-punch bit of emotion in the end. There is glass. Broken. And there is the light of sunset, which was my main reason for this shot. As always, thank you for viewing, and commenting...there will be more to read...once my brain settles out of "work" mode.

I love the way you have captured the sunlight here, Chip. So many stories here, my friend - I like this a lot!

I think this is fast glass...fast to crack and fall. But such glass, rather than having been sucker-punched, was punched by some 'sucker' with little else to do but destroy. They too inherit the world they desecrate!

I'm drawn by the shapes of the broken glass, the triangular shards being bathed in the golden light...what a great find and shot, Chip!

Slow glass seems like an intriguing concept - see Wikipedia. It would be interesting to enter this abandoned establishment and look back through the broken windows to see the vibrant streets when business was good. Customers coming and going like ghosts. The sunlight in this scene with its dark shadows is a bit like the temporal mixing of two incongruous elements like two eras in time caught in one place. But just for a moment.
