I've just finished reading an excellent Icelandic thriller written by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir and the fact I have uploaded this shot has something to do with it ! I took this photo a couple of years ago, as I was hiking in the Landmannalaugar region, near the volcano Hekla in the southern section of Iceland's highlands. The Landmannalaugar area is a popular though remote tourist destination in Iceland. The area displays a number of unusual geological elements, like the multicolored rhyolite mountains you can see here. The many mountains in the surrounding area display a wide spectrum of colors including pink, brown, green, yellow, blue, purple, black, and white. The hot springs that hikers may encounter in the mountains have given Landmannlaugar its actual name, which means 'the peoples' pools'...Please zoom in !

Fantastic work on this photo Jean-Luc, and it was a pleasure to read your thoughts on this fascinating area. It's easy to see why you love this area so much, and as you so well pointed out the multi colored colors of the mountains is a rare site. Very much enjoyed this presentation and was surprised to learn about the hot springs the mountains also offer.

C'est curieux, j'ai tenté d'entrer dans la littérature nordique mais je n'ai jamais pu dépasser quelques pages ; ça ne me parle pas. Si on y trouve une ambiance qui évoque cette image absolument superbe, il va falloir que j'essaye à nouveau. J'apprécie d'autant plus ta belle photo que tu ne nous inonde pas d'images alors que, venant de toi, avec ton talent, j'aimerais en voir plus.
