Description
The Wunderkammer (wonder-room) or Cabinet of Wonder was a cabinet of curiosities collecting curios from around the world that was fashionable from the Renaissance to the Victorian times. The the objects included belonged to natural history (sometimes faked), geology, ethnography, archaeology, religious or historical relics, works of art, and antiquities. Besides the most famous and best documented cabinets of rulers and aristocrats, members of the merchant class and early practitioners of science in Europe also formed collections that were precursors to museums.
The first collections hosted by the National Museum in Prague were collected by a group of patriotic aristocrats. As you can see in this photo, a rhino is exotic enough to still inspire a sense of wonder in the girl, while her younger brother sports a man about town's ennui.

It's almost like an 'Elephant in the China-shop'? - well, close enough - he could do enough damage ... LOL love the pw and POV, BB

Excellent capture! I once got close to a living baby rhino in a Nepali village and your capture reminds me of the emotion I felt while being there !

Beautiful composition, lighting, and postwork. I love the way the lighting emphasizes the forms of the rhino and siblings. Along with the column on the left, they are like pieces carefully placed for best effect. Wonderful capture of the children's body language. The rhino, perpetually looking off to the side, seems uncomfortable with the scrutiny. Excellent image! I like it a lot.

love your sensibilities and how you capture your inevitable colliding worlds so deftly in single images...This was another of your series; and when I see another Sandra series, I know it's going to explore many avenues, variations on a theme, and leave one fulfilled at the end in ways they wouldn't have expected at the start. The juxtaposition here is wonderful, and the emotional movement between peering sister, "non chalant" brother, and the rhino is just great. The rhino looks like a tour guide who stopped to let you take his picture, as he continues to mutter to the children out of the side of his mouth. He's a thoughtful chap though a little tired; perhaps wondering where the hell the rest of the crowd is. (And I'm impressed that they display him/her so boldly in the middle of the floor. Looks like he dropped in to see old friends.) Your heightened light is dramatic. And your history---of which I knew only a part---is, as always, scintillating; and it expands our consciousness of what we're seeing. Nice angles too. A fine shot in a fine series.
