The Mighty Fortress of ... Oops! Wrong title!
The Grand Hotel in Lund. NOW it's right. Built during the mid 1800s. The round roofs on the corner "towers" are pointed out in my previous post, as is the sloping central roof over the main entrance. It's built of local sand stone and brick.
The red part with sloping roof on the ground floor to the left is the resaurant - a large, open L-shaped room with large windows and really good food. Prices from $10.- to $80.- depending on what you want to eat and what "wet stuff" you want to imbibe. The wine cellar boasts a lot of fine wines. They even have a 150+ year old bottle (I wonder if that tastes any good, but, they are NOT selling it!).
The hotel also has a large, 2 storey ball room with surrounding balcony. The decoration is in blue and gold and looks really nice. Rooms are from luxurious (and expensive) to ordinary and not so expensive.
Quite a few odd characters in the city have been daily customers to the restaurant, and there are quite a few storys about them.
The facade faces west, towards the railroad. Maybe not the best for sleeping.
We had a little snow last night. It's still very damp, cold and some wind. Not fun at all to be outdoors (see the woman all bundled up in the middle of the photo).
Enjoy!

A grand building indeed. I've only done this once, but a fun thing to do if you have the time is go into the hotel lobby, find a big comfortable chair or couch and take pictures of things you see around you...lighting fixtures, wall decorations, furniture... After sitting there for 5-10 minutes, people stop noticing you with camera in hand...then if you like...you can take pictures of the people around you doing people things. It is all very easy and you'll get some great candid photos. And you'll be out of the cold for awhile!

Very cool building. I bet it would be fun just to walk around inside for about 5 hours - taking pictures of everything
