Description
March 18, 2006
This is a photo of frost on a bush outside my apartment building taken in March 2006. Though it's quite cold right now here in south Sweden (-15 C./ +5 F.), we have not had any frost at all! The frost crystals on the bush are up to 3 cm. (or 1 1/4 inches) long. Interestingly, most of the crystals are oriented to the left in the photo. I wonder why? Could it be the direction of the wind?
I recall this was taken on another bitingly cold day. I went out to photograph the frost, and came in quite frozen after having walked around the block - took 10 minutes. Brrrrr!
Enjoy!

Nicely captured frosticles mate, you don't want to be out in that too long eh? Us frogs like a more damp and warm existence after all ;)

I concur with Mike. Hoarfrost is unusual. It is also called radiation frost. I've only captured pictures of it once. Here's one picture from my gallery.

Wow, that's amazing frost, beautifully-detailed photo. It takes very specific conditions to create frost like that, and I've never heard of it making formations so large. Wonderful photo!
