Description

Golden Sol meets the horizon and the sky bikers chase it. Called "Ride the Sun"; to Maylu's knowledge no one has ever caught the Sun on a sky bike. No one has caught up to it. Still sky bikers must try, hopping like kitties after a laser beam. Funny how it always seems to get away - hiss!. In the quest for "efficiencies", the rabble chamber1 opted to clean up Dystopia's image - cheaper than cleaning up the actual city. The iconic civic motto, "Dystopia: If you think its weird now, you should have been here before", just doesn't cut it for a new century - sic aiunt. The Old Party insist that their metropolis is no longer so weird. Never mind that purple oranges grow on red maple trees. Or that nearly half the voting population consists of floaters, triffids, synthetics (including love bots), cats (they prefer the nomen 'kitty') and vegan zombies. No, not weird at all. Thus a mostly non-biblical polling of the electorate sounded out the following candidates for the new metro motto.
  • "Dystopia: Home of the Grim Reaper". Actually, he lives in the suburb of Endsville - 17km outside the city limits. Death has given his celebrity endorsement to this motto.
  • "Dystopia: Здесь умершие более многочисленн чем прожитие". Catchy but untrue, the zombies just attract more attention.
  • "Dystopia: Our liquor чисто and our prostitutes are 純潔2". The mayor's favourite, but cherry is not an official Dystopian colour.
  • "Dystopia: Our mayor's a imbecile but he's just one guy". Factual, but the dolt disappeared in the City Park the other day. The triffids claim they didn't eat him. But he did cancel their transit line, funneling the quatloos into tax breaks for brothel patrons.
  • "Dystopia: The city that cares, unlike those low lifes in Steampunki-punki-ford". Neogoths; they think they're so big with their swanky leather threads, broody atmosphere and sexy V4 models.3
  • "Dystopia: 侵入者將被違犯". For those who kick it old school.
  • "Dystopia: Kiss your sorry ass goodbye". Disqualified for bad taste, language and violation of Canadian copyright laws.
But the front runner is, "Dystopia: The Floating City". Acknowledging that there's more people, commerce, crime and politics in the sky than on the ground. So much so that one could obtain an easy living and considerable power pinching a few treasures off of one of the automated freighters. That is if one were inclined to sneak their sky bike two kilometres above the citizens' band of mid-level. Oops! Did I say that? Twenty quatloo fine for bad thoughts. But perhaps the slogan should be, "Dystopia: The Drifting City", for she has certainly drifted here and there. Over the decades the principality has fallen under the sway of practically every major global power: Japan, China, Russia, Brazil, Canada, a three month tryst with Liechtenstein and one really wicked night in Prague. Some say that she was on the rebound after her break up with Liechty, others say it was the affect from the State of Intoxication. But that night, the city did snatch up the U Fleku brewery - Na zdraví! "This is my city", Maylu's thought float in the tranquil purr of her bike's electric motor. Reflecting on that prospect some more, perhaps it's just as well everyone loses the race. Catching the Sun would not turn out well for the victor. "To win is to lose and he who loses shall win", a wise man once said. The motto of the race. "Dystopia: The City of Losers", Maylu is grateful. 1Dystopia Municipal Council 2Traditional Chinese only 3Steampunkiford's civic motto is, "Imagine a city where you are scalded every day".

I have to admit, these Dystopia stories never ever turn out the way I imagine them at first. The city is quite the quirky mistress. My thanks and dedication to Sherrie (aka. drifterlee) for posting the secret which allowed me to complete this rendering after several programme crashes. Vue can only import 127 textures at a time from a Poser file. A V3 character, fully clothed with a sky bike seems to break this rule and so would not import as a single unit. Thanks again Sherrie.

The Imbecile is dead. Long live the imbecile. Number four could work. Very funny! I love the slogans, especially the first one. Beautiful image. I like the contrast between the colorful lights and sunset, and the homogeneous gray steel of the city. Wonderful composition, colors, and pov. Excellent work!

what a great creation, clayton...love the skyline and the sunset...not usually a big fan of dystopia stuff, but your scene is most eye catching...cool storyline too :) it horrifies me to think that folks will be flying "cars" around...population control?
