On Aviation and Photography:
"You haven't seen a tree until you've seen its shadow from the sky." -- Amelia Earhart
“You don't take a photograph, you make it.” - - Ansel Adams
UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

What a tree... and I would say cedar too. Saw a list of these sites the other day. leafsnap.com ArborDay.org What tree is that? Maybe one of them would help.

I know it is a great photo Bill, and also a massive and beautiful tree!

Stunning capture Bill. The lighting is perfect on the tree. God Bless.

Lovely tree and shot Bill. It looks to me like a Douglas fir, if it is it will have soft bark and would be very tall. The reason for soft bark is that if it suffered a lightning strike the bark would strip thereby saving the tree.

A real old timer..I love it. I should need to see the needles/overall shape/cones to be certain of the name

That's an impressive tree indeed! A JOY to see!!!!! I would guess its a Fir of some kind, I'm more than likely wrong but lol If that was in the UK, it would have been hacked down by now on Health and Safety grounds.... and no, I'm not joking... Sad isn't it.. Rob

Wow, amazing golden light and a masterful capture, Bill. I don't know what it is, but I think it's what I have in my back yard.

Gorgeous light! This is just outstanding. I believe this is the highest point in the cemetery. It should be easy to find again! :)

Gorgeous color, contrast, lighting and textural effects, Bill. Stellar shot of this tree, possibly a giant redwood that didn't want to make the effort of growing any taller.

Oh, man! What a tree! That's just lovely, Bill! When I saw this, it reminded me of the giant tree-village of the Na'vi in the Avatar movie. The angle on this make this tree look absolutely massive - a real beauty!

I love how you have caught the light here and it really is a massive trunk. A bit big to give a hug to, but it looks as though it has seen a lot of life.
