Description

This one has even got a chain, with a padlock at the very bottom. Captured 2/1/12, very early morning, within walking distance of where I lay my head at night. A ZOOM should reveal better detail. Allaismalardik, thankx for the look-see, and for any and all favs and noncritical comments.

OK, are people stealing fire hydrants in California? I guess they don't want this turned on or stolen. Better safe than sorry. Good catch.

I showed this to my dog and he asked to go out immediately! He did not seem to mind that it was bolted down. I, on the other hand, thought it quite odd. Nice image, Harry.

I can say I have never seen one quite like that, with the big attachment gizmo. It leads me to wonder why it's there; did some truck leave it by accident, or is there a shortage of attachments in the fire department? I would think the attachment would be too expensive to leave attached to one hydrant, wouldn't it be more efficient for the truck to carry it than to leave it in place? Perhaps there's some construction project nearby and they're using the water from this particular hydrant? Questions abound. But whatever the reasons, you've gotten brilliant crystal clear shots of the hydrant in question, with accountrement; excellent work, Harry!

MrsRatbag: I believe the attachment/accountrement is there for use by street cleaning trucks, which use a lot of water in sweeping up the debris adjacent to the curbs.

The simple fact appears to me that the FD doesn't want this big, heavy and I am sure expensive adapter stolen. This is one of the most interesting fire plugs I've seen. Good catch.

Two nice POVs Harry! I agree with Bill - a very different hydrant. It almost looks like a permanent flushing hydrant for some reason and the cap is chained back.
