Description

Pittsfield Building 55 E Washington Chicago, Illinois Built in 1927 We had breakfast in the Pittsfield Building a couple times when we were in Chicago last fall. That story was a while ago ... click here to see the Pittsfield's five-story central lobby and chandelier. You enter the building from East Washington through a brass and glass revolving door, cross a large empty space and pass the concierge desk, and enter the elevator hallway to the right. If you were to continue straight ahead, you'd end up in that five-story central lobby. This is the ceiling in the elevator hallway. This looks a little blurry to me, but it was so amazing I couldn't pass it up. Content over quality this time.

Superb capture of these ornate and beautiful architectural details. I'd love to know what the materials were. Sometimes they would be made of embossed and painted tin.

This reminds me of the type of ceiling we had in the four story brownstone I grew up in back in New Jersey. I like the detail in what I presume to be metal?

What a wonderful piece of architecture! Gosh - they just don't build them like this anymore! Super 'abstract' Tara!

When design and craftsmanship took priority over cost, glass and steel. Love the detail here and the feeling of grandeur your photo engenders. It was real...no delusions needed:-)
