Description
Titan CV EVA Prep Deck – Detail View
This is an on-going series. See Mars terraforming image links below.
The set constructed for my previous post required over 24 hours to render in Bryce 6.3 – and would not load at all in Bryce 7. My problem was that I wanted to present several views – the previously posted perspective view giving a sense of the space – and a more detailed close in view focused on crew activity.
In order to reduce the render time I decided to build a reduced structural set in Bryce render then import the resulting image into Poser where I would set up a recreation of the arrangement of crew and other physical items (the chair, table and so on) and render those figures in poser against the set background – which is something that can be done with careful planning and careful attention to camera position and angle. I have used this technique previously in my interior shots of the Callisto Crew Vehicle, see Crew Quarters. The challenge in constructing that image is that none of the human figures actually existed in the set I rendered in Bryce – posing and positioning the figure inside the bunk and the figure seated on the edge of the lower bunk was very challenging. This set did not present the same kind of problems.
I was challenged to deconstruct the Bryce set while retaining the characteristics of light play and shadows thrown by internal structural web-girders. This reduced set rendered in just over 10 hours on my quad-core machine. The poser render only took an afternoon to set up and rendered in less than thirty minutes.
Commercial Resources:
Figures are DAZ M3 and DAZ V4.
Space Suit & helmet is the DAZ M3 Space Suit.
Chair is Davo’s Modular Command Chair.
Cabinets and Table are Dystopia Office Pack.
Stonemason’s Crates.
All other modeling constructed and rendered in Bryce 6.3.
As always thank you for your interest, thoughtful comments, and encouragement.

Very cool, I hadn't really thought about bringing Bryce sets into poser, but it makes sense. I should look into that some. I like it that you have someone helping the person donning their EVA suit, it's a very complex thing to put on, and I'd not want to try to put on any of the suits NASA folks use alone, for surely i'd miss something important. Great job on this, the little details really make this work.

Very cool. I like the concept. Since you explained what you did, I can see that you managed to place the figures so none of the "background" intersect with them. (For that, you'd need to put it together in layers using photoshop, I imagine.) The lighting was pretty darn tricky, I bet.
