Description
the Mississippi river and the levee is in front of the plantation and we drove up on top of the level and i took this shot. i did take shots at road but the iron fencing showed. you can see the fence but it not blocking the plantation.
it was over cast that day i went there

TYSM for posting this,with name-n-all, Jock!!!!!!! it resembles the house on the pic I scanned from a mag to make OUR moving-house-card ;-) (fun fun ... to hear the reactions on that! ;-D) googled on the name you mentioned and that's IT, OUR HOUSE! ;-D -with my husband upstairs & me on the porch, rabbit in the garden... there were actually people who thought it was for real ;-D- had been looking for a name and location for years, so TY!!!

This is a different angle than most people use when they shoot this scene. I like it. You will probably appreciate the cover of a book entitled Dawn. It is a shot of Oak Alley a little closer to the plantation. The book is by the American author Byron Edwards. You can see a picture of this at his web site at byronedwards.net . In case anyone thinks I am trying to push this book or sell this book, no. The book has been out for over 10 years. I don't even know if it is still for sale anywhere. I just always liked the cover of it because it has this shot of Oak Alley Plantation down in Louisiana. (I did like the story too.) If you look at this shot, you may be surprised by the absence of Spanish moss hanging from the oak trees. The original plantation owner's wife thought Spanish moss was ugly so she had it all removed from the trees. They have continued that tradition ever since. It is a neat place to visit.

A beautiful, overgrown alley. As you can see which dimensions were normal at that time. If I had to go from the gate to the house, I would be totally exhausted and needed a shower ... Fabulous photo!

It is obvious that Oak Alley...the trees...the long walk...the sumptious house was meant to impress and it still does that very thing today. Well done Jocko...you've captured the atmosphere and allowed us to feel it too.
