Description
Against better judgment, I did a quick (yeah, right) re-work of an old one, with the updated morph of my friend here (still Vicky 3) in her vigilante outfit and her muscle car. Did the whole gamma correction IDL and SSS thing. Unfortunately it reminded me of how frustrating it is to render in Poser with its various material workarounds, though I do like the procedural fabric materials that can be made here and for my Macross flight suits. I’m not a Poser basher, I just have to kill myself to get it to render what I want these days. Oh well, back to learning to render 3ds max!

Great.

I think this came out very well, and I can tell you spent time on the materials and realism in general. I know what you mean about Poser, though. I spent a fair amount of time on my materials, incorporating some physical principles into them that other programs might have as a default. That said, I now that I have that basis, I'm getting results that impress at least one Max/Vray user (maxxxmodelz), and I mainly focus on is texture type stuff most of the time. That said, I'm going to be working on a second material set soon, and making a figure class in Matmatic to handle anything with skin, so I'm far from out of the woods when it comes to materials in Poser. Just so you know, there's been some talk about weight mapping V3. I don't know if it's an active project, though.

Your realistic materials probably would make things easier for me and everyone else. But my other major issue is the lighting. Sure, you can get great results now, but it's the hoops and hurdles it takes to get there. Even a graphical representation of light attenuation and falloff (a Gizmo in the interface, FFS!) would save me hours of experimentation or combing through forums. Again, not bashing Poser. All my other 3D apps would be useless to me without it.
