Description

T-Rex guessed it, this is the other Titanic...built at Harland & Wolff in 1910.This is the unique builders model based on the ships blueprints. It was used to advertise the 3 Olympic class ships although no two where identical. The model was built from Titanics blueprints but after the disaster it was changed to Olympics specification. In 1958 it was reverted back to Titanic spec and loaned to The Rank Organisation in preperation for the making of the movie 'A Night To Remember', based on the novel by Walter Lord. The model and the original blueprints were used to create the sets for the movie. The photos aren't the best as the model is obviously in a glass case, but at over 12 feet long it's certainly an impressive model, I'd love to get it on a pond somewhere...that would be 'A Sight To Remember'!!! (sorry :-)

very cool. I imagined it as something like this. there was no huge media on a second titanic ship. very cool.

I like this even the people walking around give it a ghostly look to this ship

What a fabulous model! Your pictures are great ... glass cases are a tough assignment, and nobody expects to NOT see the case. Nicely done!

The Titanic has always fascinated me. I reckon if she hadn't have sunk, she would have ended up as a troop ship during WW2 and then scraped and quickly forgotten by the world (if she wasn't sunk first)! Great post Neil.

Nicely done once again Neil. If you get the chance check out the movie "Rise the Titanic" based on the novel by Clive Cussler. In the movie they locate the ship and rise it to the surface of the Atlantic.

An impressive feat of engineering in itself.

Thanks for the dedication, Neil! I greatly appreciate it. I know the sister ship was the Olympia and that there was a third ship. When you said two Titanics, I immediately suspected the other was a ship builder's model. My father was a marine/naval architect. At his job I saw ship builder's models, often a half model with a mirror behind to create the image of the whole ship (this saved time and work). Considering the glass case, these are good photos. A lot of detail is visible. Scale seem to be 1:50. Any chance of some more photos? I remember seeing the film "A Night To Remember" after having read Walter Lord's book. Impressive work. I also saw the Titanic movie from the 1990s with deCaprio - there were many absurdities in that one. Sigh. Some 20 years ago I made a 1:700 scale plastic model of the Titanic to have as a bath tub boat, but, it was too top heavy and capsized! With the hull and deck glued together, I couldn't add a weight inside, so I taped some to the bottom. Well, when I got enough to make the ship float upright, it sank as a stone! So, I finished it and gave it away (much appreciated, in fact). As you say, it would be fun and impressive to put this model in a pond - "A Sight To Remember", and to photograph. The problem is, no engines, and not built for a wet environment. And, how to get it to a pond and into the water without damage. But it's a cool idea!

Very impressive post Neil and 'A Night To Remember' was possibly the best film about the sinking.

A model! ....I should have known.. lol I knew of The Olympia.. which also sank, or WAS sunk. One or the other.. I'm wondering if there is another model in The Science Museum in London.. They have a vast collection of models there... But this is an impressive best with a claim to fame! Good one Neil mate.. And glad you enjoyed the link ;-) Rob
