Description
We got our first really substantial & prolonged snowfall yesterday morning - about a foot or so - & it covered us with a beautiful blanket of snow. This was taken from my front porch early in the morning, but later we took a long walk up the road & I took many more photos, the best of which I will post in the next few days.
Obviously, this was postworked substantially. Occasionally, I will take photos in the snow that don't require much postwork, but usually I find that the extreme whiteness tends to make the images too bright & often washes them out - so they need a good amount of postwork to turn them into something that I'm satisfied with. In addition to the Photoshop tools I use frequently (brightness, contrast, vibrance, saturation & the sharpen filters), I used the grain filter for the first time in this image.
Photoshop is an incredible creative tool with so many deep features that I feel about it the same way scientists describe our use of our own brains - that I will only ever use a small fraction of it's potential. But that seems to be enough to get by.

Smashing contrasts. Takes the image out of the nice but ordinary category into the something special realm. Well done and I feel the same way you do about PhotoShop...so many creative features.

Couldn't agree more regarding photoshop. I've never used the grain filter but have had some luck creating similar effects with the find edges filter. Very impact full photograph.
