Description

Here is a Tachinid Fly Genus Peleteria. Found this one being pretty still in the yard. After closer examination of it, I discovered it had some physical problems going on. A permanent twist of the head (which caused it to walk in circles) and it's proboscis was also permanently extended. It could fly, but only for very short spans. I assume it had some issues while a larvae of some sort that caused the issues after eclose. It was left in a flower pot after the macro shoot, where it remained until the ants found it 2 days later. Shot was done on a neutral grey cloth in Raw. Which allowed for ease of getting a great white balance. Thanks for looking. Bruce

I have the insane urge to protect him and put him in a nice fresh insect cage and hand feed him bits of garbage to keep him alive...and I don't even like flies! very lovely photo.

Impressive macro, as all of yours! And you are the only one who has made me feel sorrow for a fly!Even they shouldn't suffer like this and have so sad ending.

On the other hand, the poor little ants need to get by too! At least he wasn't dropped into boiling water at the end like a lobster, he was just eaten alive, LOL!

A somewhat pitiful tale, but a fantastic shot of this little guy. Love the color tones & soft shadows, which give this image a classical, rich look...
