Description

Every year around this time I have a LOT of Crane Flies in the yard. I probably have a couple shots of them in my gallery, but this year is the first I am pretty happy with some of the pics. Strange looking heads on these things. Also strange that many species do not feed at all as adults. Makes you wonder what they heck those mouth parts are for then??? Thanks for looking all. -Bruce PS ZOOM for a nice look at those eyes and face.

Amazing capture my friend. Well must be a reason for the strange mouth even if they do not use it to feed themselves. God Bless.

Incredible! You are an artist of the macro! Do yo use a 50mm Macro or do you use anything else, like a bellow or tubes?

Whenever I see these long-legged, clumsy-flying people, I always think of the Mondshawan from The Fifth Element...okay, these guys aren't wearing the extremely HUGE and heavy armor that makes their heads look positively tiny, but they are intriguing flies with heads that look incredibly tiny! Wonderful capture of the eye color and the front mouth appendages. Insects are such fascinating creatures and I always imagine what it would be like if humans had some of the mouth parts that insects have: we'd have to move our fingers out of the way before smiling! I kinda like that! This is a gorgeous shot.
