For Vyktohria because I know she "digs" this kinda work - awful I know but I bet she's used to puns like that by now.
The Anasazi inhabited Mesa Verde near Four Corners in southwest Colorado between 550 and 1300 AD. Cliff Palace is the largest cliff dwelling in the region composed of some 150 rooms! The region was occupied for a period of about 700 years but the Palace is believed to have been used for only a little over a hundred years near the end of the occupation. It was abandoned around 1260 A.D. for reasons not known with certainty, but probably due to an intense and long term drought that hit the region about that time. The modern Pueblo are believed to be descendents of the builders of these dwellings.
Many moons ago I got to spend a week or so in this area for my graduate research. It is one of the most spiritually active areas I have ever experienced, if you are open to it. I was popping in and out of waking dreams after sundown nearly every day that I was there. I was camping in the backcountry which really helped get in tune with the nature of the place. To me Mesa Verde/Four Corners is one of the top 5 places in North America you have to see before you die and easily within the top 20 of the world. What do you think Victoria?.

I got to go to Mesa Verde when I was in my late teens. My Dad and I were driving some friends of my aunt's back to CA. Their son was working as a park ranger there at the time, so I got to go on a bit of a special tour. I got to go inside a kiva that still had a roof on it. That was pretty special. The nights there are amazing. You can feel the past and the ghosts of the past all around you. I was standing outside the lodge one night looking at the moon and just enjoying the evening, when an owl flew past through the trees, hooting. That combined with all that ambiance of the past and feeling of spirits all around made a moment to remember. It is an incredible place, all around. Lovely photo of it Roxy. Reminds me of the old style sepia post-cards :)

Wonderful shot. Looks like an archived archaeological image. This inpiring me to go through some older pics. A few years ago my brother and I spent a week in Sedona Arizona and did a little off the beaten path hiking as well as some of the better known spots. If you got those feelings in Mesa Verde, it's present in Sedona too. The very air seems to buzz. An amazing region of the US.

Don't suppose I'll ever get there but it looks amazing. And I never heard of "empowering parks" ("fun", "retail","water" yes!). Love your treatment and thank you for all the detail. Am a big fan of archaelogy on TV (Google "Time Team" which is on a lot in the UK). I guess we are a bit spoilt over here in the UK having been conquered by Romans, Vikings, the odd Frenchman, practically everyone really ;)
