Description

For Vyktohria because I know she "digs" this kinda work - awful I know but I bet she's used to puns like that by now. The Anasazi inhabited Mesa Verde near Four Corners in southwest Colorado between 550 and 1300 AD. Cliff Palace is the largest cliff dwelling in the region composed of some 150 rooms! The region was occupied for a period of about 700 years but the Palace is believed to have been used for only a little over a hundred years near the end of the occupation. It was abandoned around 1260 A.D. for reasons not known with certainty, but probably due to an intense and long term drought that hit the region about that time. The modern Pueblo are believed to be descendents of the builders of these dwellings. Many moons ago I got to spend a week or so in this area for my graduate research. It is one of the most spiritually active areas I have ever experienced, if you are open to it. I was popping in and out of waking dreams after sundown nearly every day that I was there. I was camping in the backcountry which really helped get in tune with the nature of the place. To me Mesa Verde/Four Corners is one of the top 5 places in North America you have to see before you die and easily within the top 20 of the world. What do you think Victoria?. Even the U.S. Government seems to agree about the spiritual nature of this National Park as it is listed as an Empowering Park; the list can be found at empoweringparks.com More from this area coming down the pipe. OMG! I totally have a shot just like this!! Don't ya just love Mesa Verde?? And the first time I went the park was closed because of wildfires...but the second time I went I took a ton of photos! Yours turned out so much better than mine, though. Mine were so overexposed and washed out (very disappointing). Oh well, will just have to schedule another trip there, I guess. :D
