Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Colorful and a wonderfully simple composition. My only experience with drawing pencils was mechanical drawing for two years when I thought I wanted to become an engineer...mathematics woke me up from that short lived dream:)

Very nice selection of color there! Contrary to Bill, I found that mathematics and drawing became inextricably linked and mathematics led me into computer art which, of course, some do not regard as art! That doesn't bother me because the same people think that technical writing doesn't qualify as writing. They are called druids or trolls, and live under bridges taking up space desperately needed by the homeless.

A wonderful composition/idea!!!

Superb capture Andrea. Mathematics and drawing not my strong point. I do believe that the Almighty Lord gave me a talent to express myself with photography though. God Bless.

I can appreciate the homage to ones tools in life... it transcends the material and gives meaning to the instruments that sustain us. A theme we should all embrace as we seek to illustrate our own lives. I am sure each carefully selected color must harbour its own unique memory as you sought to decode the latent images within your mind that eventually became your work of art. What a magnificent theme to define ones self!... and then there is your dogs, your garden, your photography, and so much else you share of yourself with the world. You are truly a steward of your God given talents.

Oooooooohhh. What a tasty shot! I love this!!

Clarity, color and composition beyond belief in this pic! The pencils appear to have been sharpened with a knife, rather than a modern pencil sharpener.

lovely arrangement

Now I know your favourite shades, they are loved. Mathematics/numbers terrify me!

as child i always loved to arrange the colors in the box this way - colorful picture, makes mood for drawing!

Beautiful and love how all the cool tones are more well-used than the reds/oranges:) And YES on the sharpening!!!! :)

A beautiful rainbow of watercolour pencils - something I never owned, not even ordinary colour pencils - I only wished ... When I migrated to OZ, I finally invested into a set of coloured chalk (refined) and I have still got them ;) BB
