Sorry folks, no ship model today! I do have a 1:700 Skywave model of the US Navy’s Perry class fast frigates, but it’s not assembled. Instead, I’m posting a few photos of the USS Estocin, named after a captain of the US Navy.
The photos were taken during a visit to Philadelphia during the summer of 1987. The photos were scanned in 2004 from the negatives. Unfortunately there’s a lot of dust in the images.
I also have photos of the USS Reid of the same class which I may also post later on.
ENJOY!

Great photo. Your armament specs are off. You have the US frigate specs listed. That ship does not have Phalanx CIWS gattling gun. If it did it would have a white dome that looks like R2D2 on the rear end of the upper weather deck just behind the smoke stack.

So amazing.

slimbo - I know the CIWS is missing in the photo. However, the US Navy specifications state CIWS. Why this was missing when I photographed the ship, I don't know.

Wow, looks like a very modern ship. I haven't been keeping up with the US Navy very well...a 24 year service life??? This must have been some money saving, reduction-in-force move. CIWS is close-in defense against missile attacks as I recall...you are right, it should be there...maybe down for maintenance at the time. Good pic.

Impressive! Nice work!

Neat modern looking ship! Sleep and smart... But, I notice (as with most U.K. ships as well) they are so much slower than WW2 ships of the type.. why? They are more modern so, you'd expect faster not slower! But nice shots (and scans).. Next! lol Rob

The Perrys were (are) nice-looking ships, put out to pasture before their time. Their main purpose was convoy escort; with the collapse of the USSR it was felt their mission had disappeared, so they became a "victim" of the so-called "peace dividend". The CIWS was eventually installed in all the Perrys, but the first batch or so entered service without. I'd say you caught Estocin prior to being refitted :) Nice capture - shows her lean look & "razor-sharp" bow to good effect!
