Description

Monday, March 12, 2012 Hello folks! No post yesterday due to a lot to do. Here's a stern view of the fast frigate USS Estocin. For the ship's data, see my previous post at - http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=2308439 Here we see the ship's squared off stern. To the right we see the two openings for the towed array sonar for submarine hunting. Together with the on board sonar, these permit triangulation, pinpointing a submarine's location. Members of the crew are standing on the flight deck for the LAMPS sub hunting helecopters. The ship can carry two such helecopters. The nets around the flight deck (folded up in the photo) are folded down during helecopter operations to catch any crew member that may be blown overboard by the helecopter rotor's strong down-draft. The two doors to the LAMPS helecopter hangar are visible in the superstructure. Between the doors is the control tower (or cage) for the flight directors. Above, beyond the US flag, is the squat, broad funnel with its black upper rim. Beyond that is the latice mast. Photo taken in Philadelphia, summer 1987. I have more photos of this class of frigate. I'll post them as I get time. Enjoy!

I had no time to comment yesterday either mate! lol Off shooting.. :-) But here I am now, both this and the 'sharp end' POV are great to see, and while the can doesn't allow great amount of zoom, its super to be able to just SEE the ship at all! More please, of anything and of anytype! lol Loving the posts of this type.. Rob
