Okay, I know some have been waiting for this. Not sure what kind of reaction I'll get. You can't tell, but it is Viki 4 under there.
This is Gothic armor, the kind that peaked around the 1480's prior to hardened steel simpler designed plate like the Milanese from Italy. The fluting, like corrugated cardboard increased the strength of the plate.
The details so far:
First, the helm. That is a Sallet helm, for those that don't know. The chin part (bevor) is separate, a part of the gorget. It is articulated, so the chin drops, opening up more. The helm's visor opens up good and wide.
The cuirass (breast plate) has two plackarts, and yip, no breast shapes. I may do one with breast shapes for the general fantasy audience, but there is a good reason real cuirass didn't have that breast shape you see in fantasy armor. The center, being convex, should the cuirass be struck, would drive the armor into the sternum, effectively disabling the wearer, if not killing her with a cracked sternum and ruptured heart.
As before, on my Milanese, the pauldrons, spaulders, knees and elbows all articulate. No bending steel on this suit. All parts have bend turned off.
Still a lot of work to be done. Most of it is mapped, though what you see here is just shaders in Vue.
Anyways, thought I'd post a teaser. I'll show more as I get to work on it.
Could have more accurate detailing in the cuisse, and some better flutting, but overall, I'm happy with how it's turning out.

Oh, I forgot to add. There are two types of pauldrons. There is a full pauldron, covering the arm pit, and a more open pauldron, with the besegew like you see there on the right shoulder. The besegews I may make as props. This would allow easier lance couching.

Though I don't create character art I do like the outfits you folks create for them...This one looks like it took many hours to create and was well worth the time as it is quite impressive...(smiles)...

I really like this, and I think that for the fantasy crowd, once you remove the helm and there's a pretty face and flowing hair... they'll forget all about the breastplate. I think it's awesome that you did your research and understand the function of what you're creating, very cool!

WOOHOO!! whoops hoots hollars and generally carries on like a true nutter This looks GREAT!!!! SOOOOOO happy to see you working back on armor! And WHAT armor!!! (yea, can you tell I'm one of the ones that was waiting for this? hehehe) Looking VERY promising, Darrin! Can't wait to see what the texture looks like. Have to agree on one point with Brett - it's nice when someone does actual research on these things, just makes them that much better! :-D

I would love an M4 Version...not really Interested in the V4 Version. But having said that its a stunning piece of modelling and very acuate to the Actual Harness on which it is modelled.. I would be prepared to pay double, even treble, for an M4 version. Please consider an M4 version. S.K.
