Description

Along with the Bowie-style knife, this little gem was there - in this case it is a 'hunting' knife - however with a blade length of 3" (7.9cm) and a total length of almost 7" (17.65cm) it has one advantage that none of the other blades I own has - A fire starting system (the small rod at the top) so one does not have to rely on matches or a lighter to get a fire started. Considering that I live near some dormant volcanos (Mt. Saint Helens for one) the ability to get a fire going in a short time is crucial - matches can get wet and lighters can run out of fuel. This, with a basic understanding of survival knowledge, will determine my fate. thank you for the wonderful and interesting comments and faves have a great week

My friend, I applaud you for these images you're sharing. These are more than pictures of blades, imo. If I'm reading you right and I think I am, these are images of survival, self-reliance, and emergency preparedness. Quick story if it's okay? Hurricane Irene blew through Pennsylvania last year. The power was out for three days. My God. Do we take anything more for granted than electricity? But here's my point. I have a solar panel, an Optima deep cycle battery, and a power inverter to compliment my gas-powered generator. I ran my TV, computer, & modem off the deep cycle battery at night because the generator is so loud. Not to mention that gasoline will be unavailable in a prolonged event. And I'll be adding to my solar setup this Summer too. What I have basically assembled for now is a portable solar generator. Really cool. Anyhow, I think you are providing an excellent community service here! Takes lots of guts to talk about stuff like this. Most people don't want to think about it until it's too late. PS ... I wondered if the handle was hollow on the survival knife the other night. :) Best wishes! James

Quite an interesting collection you have, Mike! I remember seeing an ad for something like this in an outdoor magazine some time ago.

Very nice! And it's short enough that you can take it with you and not run into problems with the police, too!

Great Mike!! You are well prepared for a lot of events, but I think if a volcano becomes active, the least you will miss is fire LOL

And if the volcano ever erupts you won't even have to bother with the fire lighter eh!

Well, let's hope Mt. St. Helens doesn't blow again any time soon - nor Rainier or the others for your sake. I'm more concerned about Yellowstone blowing myself. I live to the south of it. Guess it's better than living in NE, but not much, because of how huge it is. I don't think there will be any escaping it for hundreds of miles in any direction. Very cool knife Mike. Do you scrape that little rod against a rock for a spark? Not sure how that would work, but apparently you have used it :)
