Description

A view of the Rogue River taken on a hike a few years ago. Just a little past this section is Rainie Falls, where there is a very challenging rapid for rafters. From the safety of the trail, we hikers can watch the daring rafters navigate the rapids & get to see them flip over fairly reularly if they take the most perilous route. We go rafting on the milder sections of the river, but this is a little beyond my comfort level. Here's an excerpt from the C-W-R.com rafting website: "The Rogue River is one of the original eight rivers designated as "Wild and Scenic" by Congress in 1968 for its amazing beauty and wilderness. The Rogue below Grave Creek is described by many as "floating through a zoo" due to the plentiful bald eagles, osprey, deer, bear, chinook salmon, steelhead, and wildflowers. The river has many fun Class II and III rapids with long pools in between. This is the best river in the world for families to enjoy and is a delight in an inflatable kayak. Rainie Falls is an unforgettable rapid. The main drop on the left is a six foot falls into a frowning hole and long boil line. The main drop is rafted occasionally, but is well known for flipping boats and sending people for a long and scary swim. There are two alternate options to the main drop. Most seasoned river guides will take their boats down the "mid chute" just right of the main drop. This is a Class IV maneuver through a narrow chute and a large drop. Most boaters will bump their way down the class III "fish ladder" on the far right side." If I can find a decent picture of a raft going down Rainie Falls in my files, I will post it... Please zoom

A lovely capture of this beautiful scene. The name of the river seems to refer to it not always being as placid as this.

Absolutely stunning view, from above - and I am sure similarly good - looking from below up! ;) BB I have tried my hand at White Water Rafting, at the Tully River in North Queensland, Cairns (Australia) it's scary - but exhilarating (if you don't fall or get thrown in) would I do it again? - I don't think so!
