Description

Found this female hanging out around a Bird House I have hanging on the lemon tree the other day. After closer inspection, I saw the Nest up inside the Bird House. This morning I coaxed her out onto a stick and got a few shots while it was pretty cold. Placed her back inside, but looking in there again she isn't around. Hope I didn't make her want to move out by bothering her so early in the morning. I can't see in the nest well enough to see if there are eggs in it or not. If there are, I am sure she will be back and is out and about getting food and supplies for the babies. Anyway, this is a new species for me to photog. I thought it was a Yellow Jacket, but after some research discovered it is a Species Polistes dominula - European Paper Wasp. Another species Polistes exclamans (have some shots of those in my gallery) has also made a nest on the eves on the side of my house. Small nest so far. But if like most years, they get rather large. And as much as I love insects, that particular nest may have to go if it gets too large and active. Thanks for looking everyone. Big thanks for all the kind comments on my last upload as well.
