"You haven't seen a tree until you've seen its shadow from the sky." -- Amelia Earhart
“You don't take a photograph, you make it.” - - Ansel Adams
UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

I'm so jealous! I've been trying for years to get near one of these. They are here but in small numbers. I've heard them often, seen them a few times, and never got even one shot! Very nice photo!

LUNCHTIME! And flew away when there were no insects left. They do keep trees free of boring insects. Nice, and very lucky, photo. Thanks for comments. Glad you looked up the Mellon - it's near where you live (I think), so you may be able to visit it (and get more photos than I did!). Keep up the good work! :-)

A busy little fellow. Great capture.

This guy was sure accommodating! I hope we'll see more of him during the spring and summer months. There are usually a few of them around the area. Sometimes they get up on OJ's roof and bang on the gutters. It's quite loud! LOL!

A constant rat-a-tat indicates sheer determination, as captured in this cool pic of Woody Woodpecker at work, Bill. Actually, this guy is most handsome as woodpeckers go. And, please check out my 1950 Ford Business Coupe foto, recently posted.

Great pic of Woody Hugs Susan~

They can be quite noisy; I just can't imagine how their brains survive all that hammering. Unless that's where the term "bird-brained" comes from? Anyway, I've seen one or two in the tall trees of my back garden, and I hear them all over the neighborhood (and around work, too). They fly away too quickly for me to capture any, maybe I don't have enough insects in my trees for them to spend any time pursuing. Given the height of the trees and the proximity to the house, that's probably a good thing ;} Great work and quick thinking to get this shot, Bill!
