Description

I was amazed by the new growth on this succulent on the Namibian coast. It was all dried out and basically dead and with some moisture at the right time, new life is miraculously sprouting again! In a way I also feel like my one son got a second chance this week. We rushed him to hospital on Tuesday night with life threatening acute billiary pancreatitis caused by a gallstone that blocked the ducts of both the gallbladder and pancreas. Four days in hospital and one surgery later he is at home and doing fine. We are just praying now for finances to have his gallbladder removed. He is not on a medical plan. We are so grateful and relieved that all went so well. A true blessing. Hugs Carin xx

What a relief about your son!! We are so fortunate to have the National Health Service in the UK. This picture is a great example of the toughness of succulant plants.

amazing how trees can come back from death's door.so many people where I live cut the crummy trees that was planted by the cheap shake builder, but leave the trunk.well in less than a month during the growing season they have some branches again I am happy that your son is going to recover fine.I had my gall bladder out many years ago and it is hard to even find the small incisions

A miracle indeed, just lying dormant and waiting to sprout. Good luck with your son; I know the company that runs my clinic and many hospitals (Swedish Medical), has a social work department that finds funding for people who can't afford the help they need, you might want to see if your country has something like that?

An echo of the Phoenix that rose from the ashes, as depicted in this fine foto, Dierbaar. The area looks so desiccated it's a wonder that the succulent came back to life. And good news on the fate of your son after his traumatic illness. Hope everything works out okay for you all, both physically and financially.

First of all, I'm glad your son is doing better! Secondly, I thought this was a Namibian shot...something about the sudden exuberance made me think of the desert. I think it's because things in deserts always trick you by looking dead and wilted and kinda worse for wear, and then suddenly there's a riot of flamboyant blooming. Marvelous! I'm holding onto good thoughts for your son and your whole family! (Oh and those budding bits: I'm trying to figure out if they're fruits or if they're buds that might grow into new foliage/branches? Whatever they are: you captured them perfectly.)
