I don't know if you can get a back copy, but Dorset Life No.379 (October 2010)has a most fascinating article about shepherds, several pages long. If you can't get one I stole this issue from the Thoracic clinic at Bournemouth Hospital this week, and could post it to you. Terrific pic by the way, Alan. Always sad when they succumb.

amazing softness & mystery. The tree seems to have several lives, because of the way it moves in at least two resolute directions. And your light in this shot, as well as the darker hues of the whole, and the beautiful soft background valley, make for a dream of a shot, soft & mysterious at the same time. Beautiful work. And amazing that your grandfather was a shepherd! I read andrea's comment, and I'd be curious about them too. I don't think we have many shepherds in the States, in a time of mechanized animal husbandry. An amazing piece of your heritage. (My grandfather sold wool, wool clothes, wool everything: So who knows, maybe yours & mine did business in some way! My grandfather was from Russia, and rather than adore where he lived, he wanted to get out. Russia in those days was not a great place to be, I think...)

Very symbolic because of all the trees, that had to come down, to create those gorgeous fields in the background.
