Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

An imposing group here, Andrea: lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride. Which one is sloth?

Ha, love it...have not seen before. Maybe the lady with the tea stall thought she might increase business by highlighting a wee bit of attractive gluttony.

together, they do not look like a bunch of sins but rather the attribute of great time. excellent artwork, Andrea

while I love your portrayal of the sins, I also agree with Nikolay that it's also about a great time, and I'll add that it's about a great and very funny artist. Your sense of human caricature is some of the best I've seen, and your ability to make it tactile & fully 3-dimensional is equally wonderful. You do the same thing in your drawings, but of course without the 3 dimensionality of sculpture (though your drawings are still very tactile). When viewed together, this really is a grimy bunch, yet a bunch one would like to spend one evening with so they can tell their grandchildren (they fed me, they stole my money, they took my clothes and then they cackled---lovely evening!). They're like a big dysfunctional family, with nothing but crazy aunts & uncles and whacked out kids, and a sense of sullen malediction that could make the darkest Dickens' scenes seem like paradise. (Shakespeare's Queen Margaret---from Richard III---would fit in here very well, even though she was the only sane character in that play. "Stay dog, for thou shalt hear me...(thou) poisonous bunch-backed toad!") Your free & angular way with facial lines, the exaggerations of bags under the eyes, the furled brows, the sticking-out ears, the sagging breasts, those big signature feet you do so well, the sinister eyes, etc etc, are all pure caricature at its best. Yet your sense of satirizing these dark sides of humanity are met with your joy at creating itself, as these mean & uncaring characters are still made with real love: the love of the artist, not because you love these sins but rather love making them come alive for us. That's why Nikolay says what he says...Wonderful work, 7 fav's! It's ALWAYS a gift when you show us your physical art, be it painting, drawing or sculpture. As I said to Tara & Helle, when pieces like this go up, it's an event. I counted the days till I could come here and acknowledge them.
