If you're from the United States, you may not have run across a Kinder Surprise egg before unless you've been out of the country. Of course, chocolate eggs are available here in the US, mostly around Easter thanks to Cadbury; Kinder eggs are available throughout the year, although not everywhere, due to heat. They're banned here for containing something other than food (other products don't actually put things in the food itself, thus cereal and Cracker Jacks don't have this problem) and were put on a recall list for those that had been imported. Apparently, they also don't meet guidelines for small parts that can pose a choking hazard, even though there is a warning on the outside wrapper and they have a plastic shell inside that has to be opened first. I understand the reasoning behind the ban (and the recall), but I don't exactly agree with its application in this case. I'm just guessing here, but if they had a cute babe or guy in them, people would go out of their way to get their hands on them. The eggs, I mean. And, well... the contents too.
