Description

Some people say they not fading or die off at all. I remember stories of people even my age saying when they went to school in the first grade they had to speak English. if not they was whip. In the National Geographic in the 1960's issues; I forgot what year or month but there was a story on the Cajun then and it say if you called someone a Cajun that was fighting words back then. It was like calling a black man a name today. anyway I think it fading and I painted this to show them fading. One man say yes to me as he do not like to go to his folks house or kinfolks as they just drink and get into fights. Tell me if it works. And even the two ways of painting in this image? I just showed it to someone and they walked away with they eyes wide and saying under her breath it differ alright. But it was an old lady. it done in acrylic on a 30x40 canvas

I like how you show that the cajun culture is fading away.I think this is very good and I hope that the culture will continue is some form.

This is a fantastic painting Jock, and made even more intriguing after reading the story behind it. This image goes along way to make your point about them fading away. The detail in this painting is priceless, as I can't begin to imagine the time you invested in this thought provoking endeavor. Always a pleasure to visit your gallery Jock. You are indeed a extremely talented man.

Yeah, that works for me! The early and middle 20th century were notorious for forcing cultures to conform. That was done up here in Canada, forcing natives to speak English, and abandon their culture. All that accomplished was the permanent loss of something that made us unique. The loss of diversity only serves to turn us into a stagnant people.

I like it Jock! Well done my friend! The first time that I went out to St Martin Parish, I was welcomed and did a lot of eating of foods that I had never heard of before.

While there may be issues with the culture, it should not be lost but remembered for what it contributes to the whole of the area Great painting

years ago I was at a lumber supply and one of the regular men introduced me to a new employee.he said that he is from Louisiana.I asked just joking, if he was a Cajun.he promptly told me that he was from the state but he was from the north and was not a Cajun.I told him that I did not mean anything by it. the only Cajuns I had met was when I was working at Nichols State at Thibodeaux,La.. one of them tried to get me to go fishing out in the swamp.I told him I was allergic to alligators and mosquito's very creative idea on the method and you done such a great job on the man's face and clothing

Funny. I just took a break from peeling crayfish/crawdads/mudbugs (whatever name suits ya) and I see your post/painting about fading. Great depiction of the way things seem to go. That said, it smells like cajun seasoning, mudbugs, corn on the cob and taters in my kitchen. Nothing fading here. Nice work Jock. ;-)

Having lived in many regions of the states I can say that the cultural diversity still remains. What you have done here is very creative!

It's a culture that has a history, and need not fade; just needs a little sprucing up! ;)

Brilliant work on the flesh tones,Jocko! Your painting gets more confident all the time. The folds and creases on th girls top are masterful, too! A very clever idea to show you meaning.
