Description
Rilaun had been her home, not that Roxanne could remember those times when she had been but an infant. What seemed like memories were only images her mind had conjured, growing up, from stories she had heard Murella, her guardian, and others tell of the times before, when the cities and the villages of the hills and plains had been happy, peaceful and free.
Then Kalud and his marauders had come, like a black death, sweeping along the outer edges of the frontier, slaughtering everything in their path. Not to pillage, plunder and rape. Not to extract tribute, or carry away in forced enslavement. Only death. Kalud and his men killed every man, woman, child, beasts. A simple, brutal, swift campaign of fear and terror, by which the smaller, outlaying villages, which were of no real interest, served as the warning example by which to weaken and conquered the hearts and minds of the peoples of the richer, more powerful cities and towns about. Submit or be utterly and completely destroyed.
So it was that as his forces approached the great and ancient fortified city of Aquilara, the soldiers and citizens revolted in panic. Wickedly, they threw their good and just king, and all the royal house, from its high towering walls - walls that had stood firm and repelled invaders for over a thousand years - to their deaths, as their token of submission, and drew open wide their gates. Better to live, and make a pact with the devil, they reasoned, than to be slaughtered as the tales of terror foretold. Thus, unopposed, Kalud and his forces rode in. Aquilara, once proud and mighty, was his. Upon a thrown of many a king before, sat the Usurper, and all that lay beyond its walls was now his, to with as he pleased.
And Roxanne wept.

This is another collaboration with pixeluna. I did the initial Poser scene in 2010. One of my most ambitious settings to date with all the objects and people. Jenny completed the render adding the needed bits of post work and doing the composite overlay of Roxanne. I really love how this turned out. I hope you are enjoying this series. Be sure to see the renders Jenny did in this series as well.

Rendering it as a whole in Poser is something I don't really do. You still have maintained your signature style, Rob. With great story-telling and bringing that vision to life, is one of your best talents. You have an awesome imagination, and that detailed background is amazing!

Don't quite understand the details of how this image came together but I do understand that it has worked beautifully. The fade out of Roxanne adds to the sense of time past and her sombre looks speaks to a depth of sorrow. The story is well written and gives great detail as to the events depicted in the image.
