Description
This is the Hogback covered bridge of Madison County Iowa, not famous like the Roseman and The Holliwell, made popular by the movie and book. Out of the 6 remaining bridges these 3 are the only ones still standing in their original locations. No longer used except for viewing by the historian and the romantic. This bridge got its name from the rolling hills to its west that look like a hogs back. I love these bridges and the stories the walls tell with the graffiti carved back in the 1800's. A carved name a carved heart and his sweethearts name. Another carving, his name, loves, then her name. My figures tracing the carved names, I want to know these people who were they, did they merry, or not, how old were they, how did they live. Mysteries without knowing, without ending. But I can dream, and the story comes to life with in me. The ending, the endings remain as mysterious and illusive in my thoughts as they are within the walls of these old covered bridges. The secrets of the lovers to remain held tightly within these old walls of the Bridges of Madison County. In conclusion, which one am I, the historian or the romantic, you decide?

Stellar POV, clarity, and very stark lush colors and contrasts in this excellently postworked image. Hard to imagine a hogback anything in Iowa; Arkansas for sure, though.

Lovely timeless image~ These are worth searching out and are in more places than one thinks. A friend of mine did a book on covered bridges in Alabama, illustrated with drawings he did of them. It's been about 10 years but in Indiana there is/was (?) a wonderful covered bridge over the Eel River that was still used (yes! I drove through it! And on one side separated from the driving part by a wood rail is room to walk.).
