Well, here's the assembled kit. I've decided to not paint it so it would be like the original one I purchased in 1975 (a bit of nostalgia here).
After glueing the wheels on their axles, I had to wait 24 hours for the glue to set. I then assembled the rest, and finally put on the tracks.
I use a pair of nail clippers to cut the parts from the runners and an Exacto knife to trim the parts with. Small parts are glued in place with help of a pair of tweezers.
rantingrich gave me a chuckle with his comment - "Photography and MODELING or Photography of MODELING!" I guess this is a combination of both modeling and photography, since many of my photos have been of models I've assembled over the years.
As is visible here, and Neil comments, Matchbox came with the novel concept of including a diorama base, something both I and my brother really appreciated (gaming or no gaming). It added quite a bit to the model. Another idea Matchbox had was moulding parts in 2 different colors so painting wouldn't be necessary, but Revell has dispensed with this practice. As for the US half-track with .50 quad mounted machine guns, that was my first 1:32 scale model (by Revell) and I loved it - even the doors could be opened. But that doesn't detract from the Matchbox model (except for broken tracks - the rubber has dried out after 25 years).
I hope this inspires to some model making and some future model photographs!
Enjoy! And have fun (that's the most important part)!

Well Michael, you have far more skill than I. I alsways used to get glue everywhere and shake when adding the intricate small parts on (they generally fell off anyway!) That's a nice tidy looking model you have there, but I think you should paint it, nostalgia or not. I for one, would like to see how that turns out, as I am sure your painting skill would match your assembling skills. What do you say?

This is a real trip down memory lane for a lot of us. One xmas in the 70's I was given a huge Kubelwagon kit, maybe 1/16 scale. Do you remember that one?

Nice one my friend! I almost never painted my models but that's another art all unto itself. Sorry I've missed commenting for a few days. Of all lame excuses I've been without glasses for about a week...can see fairly well without them but suffer from eye strain in a hurry when I am glassless:)
