Description

These are the bell ropes in the bell tower of St Mary's church, Chard. The ropes are in the 'up' position meaning that they are stowed safely. The church carries a peal of eight bells.

Now you've got me wondering how a novice bell ringer practices! They'd hardly want their mistakes pealed out over the town! Terrific image ... it's interesting to see the way they keep the ropes separated.
