Description
The harbor in Newport, Oregon is a mix of ships, seafood processing plants, sea lions, cheesy tourist shops & attractions, pricey arts & crafts galleries, & lots of murals. Although it has never been a final destination for us, we usually stop there for an hour or two on our way to someplace else on the coast & find it entertaining & interesting. Amid the touristy stuff, there is a well worn & authentic working harbor that has genuine character. This is the first in a series of photos I took there on our recent visit.
This rusty machine was just sitting on the sidewalk outside one of the seafood processing plants. I don't know what it is - some kind of pump or motor I guess - but I just liked the way it looked (though the duct tape is kind of funky). I also don't know why it was sitting there - maybe waiting to be hauled off for scrap metal or to be picked up for repair? There was no one around to ask & I'm pretty clueless about these kinds of things. But maybe someone out there with mechanical knowledge knows & can enlighten me? Just curious, but it doesn't really matter & I'm perfectly satisfied with leaving it a mystery...

Looks like a water pump to me, though I could be wrong, well seen and captured.

Beats me ... Henry might know. :) When we were there last May, we had lunch with friends in a place that had about a million different kinds of beer (no draw for me, can't stand the taste), and excellent pizza. I can't remember the name of it, but it was across the street from the waterfront buildings. The murals are amazing. Nice memories!
