Description

Tuesday, April 24, 2012 And now, here’s something for the 8th Army and North Africa Campaign afficionados! The Crusader Mk III was a British tank, designed as a fast cruiser tank. Due to its mobility and good cannon, it played an important part in the early North African Campaign. It’s gun was more than a match for the early armour of the German Pz Mk III and Pz Mk IV. However, the small turret ring made upgrading to a bigger gun difficult. It had a bad shot trap under the turret and had a tendency to over heat in the desert and catch fire when hit. These drawbacks led to it being replaced by the US M3 (Grant/Lee) in late 1941, and the Sherman, September 1942. Designer – Nuffield Manufactured – 1940 – 1943 Number built – 5,300 Length – 5.97 m. Width – 2.77 m. Height – 2.24 m. Weight – 20 tons Crew – 3 (commander, gunner, driver) Armour - 51 mm. front Armament – QF 6 pounder/57 mm., 65 rounds 2 Besa machine guns, 4,950 rounds Engine – Nuffield Liberty Mark IV, v-12, 27 liter Horse power – 18 hp per ton Speed – 42 km. road, 24 km. cross country Range – 322 km. Suspension – Christie helical Ground clearance – 41 cm. Hey, isn’t that Neil waving from the turret? Everyone wave and say “Hi, Neil!” :) ENJOY!

Yes! I made this mate!!!! lol Several in fact, though I must be honest...the detail on yours is far better.. Wargame models tend to be a bit 'shape of'.. On a different note, I do intend to start my first 'new' model for ....too many years to put here (lol) when I return or very shortly afterwards. I'll let you know, and pictures will appear.. Rob

I never made one of these but they were a very modern looking tank for the time. As with Rob, after many years inthe wilderness once I get everything ordered and sorted here my first will be a Kubelwagon :)

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE???!!!!....everyone's heading for the model shop...we'll all be posting photos of real models instead of renders of virtual ones....A Rendo 70's Revival...yaaaahhhh!!!! I'll have some of that! I watched a prog on tele the other night about the development of these 'Cruiser' tanks, the first 'light' tank ever fitted with Christie suspension did 120km/h ACROSS COUNTRY!! and the driver got out smiling. Then things got bigger and heavier and a lot more violent.......Keep these coming mate, a real inspiration.
