Description

The Stour at present, showing what flood plains are for. The river is to the far left in this shot. I never cease to wonder that people stupid enough to build or buy a property on a flood plain then complain and sue and expect inurance compensation when it does what it says on the box. Some councils in the UK have in the past granted planning permissions for such sites..AMAZING! Taken from what would normally be a moving vehicle, but we were trapped in a temporary hold-up. For you Google Earthers this is looking to the West just as one crosses the bridge on New Road, Northbourne, heading North toward Parley Cross, (where one turns right to Bournemouth Airport).

Yep Andrea and also those who buy homes in tornado or earthquake zones.... I can SEMI-understand the thrill of the danger element but NOT the hassle of constantly rebuilding. Beautiful tones of brown and green and an excellent photo!!!

Great shot of the flood plain Andrea. We have lots of those here too, and yes the odd idiot will build a house on the flood plain and then claim the government should compensate them when it floods.

Yes, that is not making sence, that they build houses such a place, when they know it can happen that to flood plain could come any time. Wonderful capture though.

Of course I looked at it on the map, and the difference is so interesting to see, with and without the "extra" bit of the river! We have many rivers in this area, and live near the coast, so flood plains are quite common. Great capture of your river in flood!

Very interesting, both in image and text, Andrea. We have long narrow of stretches of concrete channels that lead to the ocean, plus dams & reservoirs, to store the water in the event of flooding.

The entire area of Southwark and Bermondsey (where I live is a natural flood plain go figure that mentality, we live in what is referred to as the Thames basin. The high sided dock walls in the old days were sufficient to keep old father Thames at bay, but even now and again, in Rotherhithe it came over. Now it is always dangerously close to the top, and the Thames barrier is designed to keep it that way, however, the latest surge tides have been showing the inadequacies in the barrier design.

Didn't you know that flood plains are flat so houses can be built on them for people who like to moan when they are up to their waists in water, nice shot though looks a bit like my lawn did the night my tree came down.

Wonderful view of the wetlands Andrea. Some people will try to blame other's for their own stupidity on many occasions. Not cool!!

So everything to the right of that fence is normally above the water line. I hate it when the government rewards stupid people. Nice shot through the trees!
