Description

...Salmon Cascade on the Sol Duc River in Olympic National Park. Taken yesterday, May 4, 2012. ...conditions: cloudy with occasional sunbreaks followed by light rain...over and over throughout the day. We love this weather:) .................................................. ...the Sol Duc River is remarkable in its migratory fish diversity and health. It is the only Quillayute tributary that supports spring chinook salmon. It contains sockeye salmon in June and July and so-called summer coho salmon in August and September. Steelhead and Cutthroat trout also spawn in the Sol Duc River. Bill P.S. Zoom worthy. "Reminds me of..." thumb_2325606.jpg

From the branches this looks like a small creek running over rocks, but from the rocks, it could be a good sized body of water. I'm having a hard time grasping how big this actually is. From the camera angle, it looks like you've gone out on a slippery ledge to take this photo. (Please DO be careful!) I don't see any fish - do they come up this part of the waterway? If so, it's amazing, considering the rocks and rushing water! I'd like to see this from another angle, and something recognizeable to catch an idea of the size of these falls. The lighting here is fantastic.

Excellent stuff Bill. You know, I'd have been tempted to do the slow shutter thing and get the cotton candy water, but that has been done to death eh? I like this!

I could have stood there all day, mesmerized by the water. This shot doesn't convey how crystal clear the water was ... there's probably no shutter speed fast enough for that! Gorgeous shot. :*

Gorgeous cascade, Bill; it looks like it was quite noisy. It would be great to see it when they're jumping against the flow!
