Description

Far from giving me a case of "the blues", the intense blueness of the ocean at Point Lobos State Natural Reserve fills me with awe. Located just south of Carmel, I would consider it to be the crown jewel of the California state park system. It features dramatic geological formations, colorful & varied plant life & many animal species. I will be posting several more photos from my recent visit in the next few days. Last year, the California State Parks Department announced plans to close 70 of the state's 279 parks due to budget cuts, which I find very sad. A few of the parks designated for closure have been saved by finding private donors to fund them, but most of those 70 will be closed this summer. Please zoom

Absolutely striking in sharpness and clarity. This is old stomping grounds for me having lived for one year in Monterey and Pacific Grove nearby. Oh, how I hate to see parks closed...makes me wonder what's next. Some of the same thing is happening here in Washington. We now pay to visit our state parks by purchasing a $30 annual "Discover Pass" for the car, which I think is actually a great idea. Why not? National Parks have a visit fee...

Oh my. What a spectacular view! Better they close them (hopefully temporarily) than sell them off to some big business/commercial interest. This is a gorgeous photograph.

It's a beautiful spot and a superb capture! :) I hope the developers don't find a way to get their hands on the closed ones. :(

It's a pity that 1% of the defense budget couldn't be moved sideways for them. Terrific job on this. It would also look good through a circular polarizer.
