Description

Just one of 227 fotos, captured yesterday, 5/11/12, mid afternoon, at the area indicated in the title, in beautiful Huntington Beach, California, near beachzz's old stomping grounds. A ZOOM would be appropriate. Just thought I'd toss this one in, shot from a bridge, as an introduction as to where I was yesterday. I'm now in the frenetic process of postworking the pics taken so I can upload them for all to see. Gird yourself for collages. Everything looks all sunny and stable in this shot, but actually there was a strong wind, which constantly buffeted me and my picture taking as I trekked the three plus miles up and down the wetlands. If I had known about the wind I would have gone there later in the year, like around summertime. I could go into detail about the area, but am pressed for time. Ergo, tons of information about the site on the Internet. As for all the extensive wildlife advertised for the wetlands, all I encountered were two lizards, two rabbits and a distant heron at the end of my trip that I was too tired to photograph. Fortunately, as a plus, there were a bare minimum of people around to contaminate the scene. Ta-ta, thankx for coming aboard, and for any and all favs and noncritical comments.

I've never been there, but I'm sure my husband has, he goes to Newport almost every summer. Great shot!

I would think it would be full of various wildlife. I bet it was a great trip regardless. I like the idea of very few people. Peaceful and quiet and very lovely.

A lovely place to roam with very few people though it was a shame there wasn't more wildlife to photograph. This is a lovely scene you have taken here and it shows a lot of promise.

It was never a wetlands conservancy when I was growing up in the area, I'm glad they did that. Looks like a great spot to walk, and the winds? I remember those, it was always windy in that area up until late summer, and sometimes even then (my summer suntan was mostly wind/sandburn as a teenager!) Beautiful capture, Harry!

It is a nice shot Harry and I like to see the different layers along the waters edge. I'd like to see more of this area.

lol on the disappointing wildlife-turnout! I've had that happen to me. But I have to say, with or without the wildlife, your pov, your light, your angle, etc, make this appear like a slice of a very desolate place, way away from civilization. It's got a strange peace to it, and a solitude---which may be very different from what one feels when walking there, I don't know. But in your shot, this could be Namibia, in Carin's gallery, to my eyes. You really captured openness and the strange newness of this place. Plus the geologically sculpted ridge along the water is wonderfully present here, it's defining in fact. Love the angle of the land. A really fine shot, bleak & strangely beautiful, and I love the landline visible in the water, down front. I'm not sure I'm seeing what others saw, but I can't help but feel this looks very vast. Strange & magical, and you did a beautiful job with it.

Well Harry, maybe you can give this 'tiny' bit of advise to the people who 'look after' the wetlands and are S'posed to know what they are doing.. Wetlands, in almost 100% of places contain WATER PLANTS! These stop the banks ERODING!!!! Look at that bank! No wonder there is nothing there, there is NO FOOD! Nothing for fish to hide in... Nothing for birds to nest in... Etc! Etc! That said, there is nothing at all wrong with your shot.. Nothing much you could do! Rob.
