On Aviation and Photography:
"You haven't seen a tree until you've seen its shadow from the sky." -- Amelia Earhart
“You don't take a photograph, you make it.” - - Ansel Adams
UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

Amazing scene and capture Bill. God Bless.

At that distance it is quite attractive! I expect you may know I find mountains very depressing!

A fantastic and well framed shot Bill. When that goes eveyone will know about it!!!

This is a really nice photo, the "monster" off in the distance, its head clear in the sky, and almost invisible at the top of the trees. It gives the mountain an eerie, floating feeling to it. Man, I flew over Mt. St. Helens 1981 - awesome devastation! I wouldn't even want to try to grasp the devastation if this "monster" were to blow its top. Would make a fantastic photo, but neither camera or photographer would live to tell about it. By the way, how far do you and Tara live from this beauty of a "monster"? Keep up the good work! :-)

Looks like you found a good vantage point to view it from. Is it just me or is it getting bigger? ;) Excellent POV and capture! :)

Bill, the two times I have been Washington, I have yet to see the mountain because of clouds. Nice. Shot.

Very cool view of the Mountain!!!

Stellar combination of depth, foreground silhouetting, and deep background haze effects in this long distance pic, Bill. And, in contrast to Andrea, I find mountains most uplifting.

Another of those beautiful sights you really need to see in person. You did an admirable job capturing it.

Looks like you found the perfect spot to take the pic I zoomed in and it is beautiful....... I love the mountain in the background.....the trees in front of the mountain and all that deep blue water......... Like Morning Glory said one view you need to see in person but I doubt I ever will except through images like this....along with books and television...... Really an awesome capture my friend.... Definitely a fav........and 10 stars to boot ** Hugs Susan~

Such a gorgeous view! I love it when the mountain is out. On a cloudy day you wouldn't even know it was there!

Excellent shot of this very beautiful mountain :)

A great vantage point you have here, Bill! I've seen lost of photos of Rainier, but not from this angle. Magnificent in full size!
MrsRatbag
Such a lovely unobstructed view! It's hard around my area to get a good view, the best one is on the 520 bridge, of course, where you can't stop for photos! Beautiful "offering" Bill, I'd say it's a winner!
npauling
A lovely capture of this very impressive mountain and I like the POV you have taken this shot.

You found a nice vantage point Bill. Its amazing that from this distance it looks as if the snow and ice goes all the way down. Great capture!

you address a very important point about major sites: How to capture it "anew," make us see it as if we've never seen it before. (That can be said even about flowers, and it's a challenge I'm still learning.) The 'newness' here is the ghostly beauty of the peak, surrounded by totally open & clean sky, looming in the background as it if were from another continent, visible across an abyss. It's beautiful & mysterious, Bill, hinting and whispering way in the background. And the foreground is like two curtains opening up on it. And there's a line of white light across the water which is a fine accent, as we make our way 'back'...A haunting & beautiful capture, and ou made it come alive as if for the first time. I can't imagine what beauty you two saw on your trip, or on any of them for that matter. Your shots have been uniformly lush, radiant, inward, mysterious and loving. The sign of an inspired & beautiful journey...
