Description

One of 270 pictures, captured 5/18/12, at the beautiful Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in not-so-beautiful South El Monte, California. Exquisitely ZOOM worthy. Paid my third visit to the area yesterday in order to shoot the usual subject matter under different POVs and lighting conditions, using another camera and some new lens filters. Arrivederci, thankx for the visit, and for any and all favs and noncritical comments.

What an imposing POV! I like the rings of light around it, which might perhaps even be the lines of electricity radiating out from the powerful structure, usually invisible but cleverly captured by you, Harry! Well done...

I thought that you were in Paris for the weekend Harry! It is a nice POV and the light rays crossing the twor are very interesting. I hope that you didn't get to close! :o)

Cool view mate, like this one.. The sun's light makes a good 'glare' in the picture.. Often it does not work in a picture, here it does.. Good work.. Rob

It could also look like a finger, pointing upwards - the most recognised signal, some people give to other car drivers on the road - not very nice, mind you - but they do! Having said all that Harry - it is a huge thing (POV), one simply can't ignore, I agree with Mrs. Ratbag - the rings around are amazing ... BB

I think the theme for this visit is 'structures'. (I won't ignore the other shots, believe me, I'm just concentrating on structures tonight.) I love the comments. Dana thought you were in Paris, lol! Well the Eiffel---which I've only seen via pics---would be denser, to be sure. But your pov here makes this seem imposing all the same. But as denise says, the glare rings really transform the tower: It not only looks (yes) like energy rings coming off a radio tower (like that old RKO snippet at the beginning of old RKO films). But something else happens: It softens the tower itself. You've got these natural filters over the tower, where the tower is kind of an abstract thing with hard & melted areas. And the pic fits with your cloud series too, because of the opening on the right, in the clouds...It's a mysterious shot, and even more alien-looking than the towers in the Legg Lake shot (#1). The wires on the bottom 'frame' the thing too...I agree with Rob that glare can work, but then that's a big "duhhhh" from me, since I add flares to my 2D & photo-manipulation art all the time. But yes, in pure photography, glare can interfere; but you've made it part of your vision, so it's integral. Congratulations for turning this blight-like structure into something new, fascinating and mysterious.
